Today I had to laugh. I met my girlfriend Mercedes at Nordstrom so that we could do a quick business meeting. She does the most gorgeous wedding invitations and accessories and she was dropping off my new business cards to me. They are SOOOO cute....but I digress. She had her 2 beautiful, charming little girls with her. Since kids are not generally interested in business meetings, our mission quickly turned to keeping them entertained while spitting out our necessary dialogue as fast as we could. Our first distraction of choice was the famous pink cookie at Nordstrom. The kind that probably don't taste that good but are so cute, you can't help but convince yourself that they taste amazing.
Well...that took about 3 minutes and we needed new entertainment. So we headed back into the store where I was educated on "Silly Bandz". Basically for those of you children of the 80's....it's the modern day rubber bracelets that we thought were so cool and wore to the skating rink. If you lived in the OC in the 80's and were a kid, the skating rink was your version of a nightclub. My girlfriend rolled her eyes as she filled me in on the hottest craze with her girls but I know her and I were just as relentless for those rubber bracelets back in the day.
Needless to say we weren't buying the "Silly Bandz" since she already had truckloads of them at home. We continued to get in a word or 2 about clients, business, marketing, etc. as we headed to the kid's shoes. I tried my best to sell her daughter on the Rainbow Sandals with the Swarovski Crystals. After all, they are the best flip flops ever. I was even wearing a pair and told her we could be twins. I actually don't think that helped my cause at all but come on....are these not the cutest things ever??
As we finally were wrapping up...we had a chuckle that we both loved the "Pink Sugar" fragrance. It smells like candy and is so cute and girly that we might as well have added Bonnie Bell Lip Smackers to the list. Who needs sophistication anyway....lol??
I still don't know if we got anything done but I so enjoyed watching Mercedes try to manage the girls and still carry on a business meeting with me. It reminded me what's important and why we do what we do. It will only be the blink of an eye before she is shopping for wedding gowns instead of "Silly Bandz" and wedding shoes instead of pink flip flops. I'm reminded of the words to a song I love and I have posted part of the lyrics below. Life and living is in the small details. The moments we think are insignificant are defining our lives little by little.
You're gonna miss this
You're gonna want this back
You're gonna wish these days, hadn't gone by so fast
These are some good times, so take a good look around
You may not know it now
But you're gonna miss this
